I’m proud to be finalist in the 2024 Sir Peter Hall Directors Award,
a member of Stage Directors UK, Young Vic Genesis, and Equity Directors.
About Me
Hello! I’m an award-winning stage director based in Reading but I work wherever you need me. Whether it’s championing bold new writing or breathing fresh life into novels and classics, I’m all about introducing stories to new audiences in inventive, joyful ways. I grew up with strong music influences in my life, so music and soundscape always feature heavily in rehearsal, and often in my productions.
Where It All Began
My infant school playground was my first auditorium, in Enfield, directing my fellow 5 year olds in our first ‘shows’ - some of them still come to see my work. Theatre’s been my home ever since – although I took a little detour into film and TV before becoming a mum to three brilliant boys who are my proudest production.
I come from a proudly working-class family, full of storytellers, bricklayers, and party comedians. My grandfather was adopted when his birth parents – a travelling vaudeville troupe of comedians and “female impersonators” (as they were then known) – left on tour.
So yes, entertaining a crowd really is in the blood.
Drama School Director
Training actors is a huge passion of mine. I’ve directed large-scale and intimate work for:
Guildhall
LAMDA
Drama Centre
Mountview
Rose Bruford
London Southbank University
From full-scale shows to screen showcases, I love working with the next generation of talent.
My Style?
Visually rich. Musically thrilling. Movement-driven. And always, always fuelled by collaboration. I’m known for creating witty, heartfelt, and striking theatre that pulses with energy and unity. The magic happens when everyone brings their brilliance to the table – that’s how I love to work.
Behind the Scenes
During a pause to raise our children,
I shifted into literary work from home – script reading and supporting writers, including a long-standing collaboration with Jessica Swale.
Thanks to an Arts Council ‘Developing Your Creative Practice’ grant, I spent 2020-21 deepening my dramaturgical craft, supporting 12 writers to develop exciting new plays. I brought in a dream team – actors, composers, designers, specialists – to take their scripts to the next level. Several went on to successful productions.
Musicals
I’ve been honing my skills in writing musical theatre through the
’Book Music & Lyrics’ programme,
where emerging musical creatives (including The Curious Case of Benjamin Button composer Darren Clark) cut their teeth.
Workshop Facilitator
Giving back is a big part of my ethos. I’ve led creative workshops with the National Theatre Education Department, designed bespoke sessions in:
Acting for stage & screen
Puppetry
Public speaking
Restoration Comedy movement
…always with the aim of building confidence, skills, and that all-important spark.
New Work Development
I’ve had the joy of directing and developing new work with:
Polka Theatre
Southwark Playhouse
The Park Theatre
Edinburgh Festival
...and more.
As Associate Director with SecondHalf Productions working alongside Jeremy Herrin on David Ireland’s USLTER AMERICAN at Riverside Studios and a starry cast including Louisa Harland, Andy Serkis, and Woody Harrelson.
At the National Theatre, I was Staff Director on the epic double production of My Brilliant Friend (adapted by April de Angelis), where I wrangled large-scale choreography, puppetry, music, and a vast, multi-talented cast on the Olivier Stage.
Dramaturgy for Your Script
Thanks to an Arts Council ‘Developing Your Creative Practice’ grant, I spent 2020-21 deepening my dramaturgical craft, supporting 12 writers to develop exciting new plays. I brought in a dream team – actors, composers, designers, specialists – to take their scripts to the next level. Several went on to successful productions.
